Just curios... Work under the table... Where does that quote come from?
I know what it means but why do we use that quote to explain working for unclaimed wages?
So does it mean back in the day they used to pay people by passing the money "under the table" so no one seen it happen.

You're a little confused, the actual phrase is, "paid under the table" and it refers to unwritten, undocumented employment. When one is "paid under the table," no payroll taxes, unemployment taxes, etc are paid. It is a quick transaction usually in cash. It's called under the table because no one "sees" the transaction happen and therefore, no prosecution.
